Throughout my career I have been fortunate to find many different coaches who have supported my development and held a mirror to some of my thoughts. It is a wonderful way to understand where you're stumbling , why and then find a solution that works for you. It's a change you make at your own pace that will hopefully stay with you going forward.

Many years ago my CIO at the time was my coach and I knew what I wanted to achieve but couldn't see an easy way to get to my goals. Sometimes the actions I had to take for simple but for me seemed a hurdle. Helping me focus on the reasons behind it and then working out what I could do to move forward seemed daunting to start with but when I started taking the first few steps I realised that I could repeat this process and learning what worked for me was part of the journey.
For me finding the right coach and feeling you have a safe space to open up is key. This helps to get to the crux of the problem. It helped me to understand what I needed to do and what was causing the struggle I felt with the role at the time and identifying ways to take steps towards my goal. Some times the change can be subtle and something you wouldn't have thought of doing. So challenging yourself is part of the exercise.
This experience has been my reason for wanting to coach others. It is always wonderful to see how people change through their coaching sessions especially when something has been frustrating and the individual unlocks a way that will work for them. My favourite part is seeing someone's potential and letting them discover what they can do, this doesn't always take many sessions and allows someone to learn to be authentic, stick to their values and always know that each step is a discovery to what the goal might be.
